Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North, is not a cold or distant man, but is often mistaken for one by those who do not know him well. With solemn grey eyes and a reserved demeanor, he lives and leads by the ancient words of his House:

† Winter is Coming †
This is his one certainty.

Eddard, knows as Ned to his friends and family, was raised among soldiers. After spending half his life fighting wars, he is world-weary of political games, and only wishes to govern the North in relative peace.

And yet.

Duty calls.

As the end of a long summer draws to a close, Ned is asked by King Robert Baratheon, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm, to be the Hand of the King — Robert's right hand, and second-in-command.

Ned is reluctant. But, bound by honor, respect, and a life-long friendship, he agrees. He rides south, for King's Landing, and becomes an unwitting pawn in a cutthroat game of thrones.

[[ physical characteristics : Ned is just shy of six feet tall, with grey eyes, nape-length dark hair, and a closely trimmed beard. He will usually be dressed in a quilted doublet, drawstring pants, a leather belt, and boots. If Ned is sporting his riding fur, it will bear a pin with his House sigil, the direwolf. He will always be armed — a sword will perennially hang at his side. ]]
